North Loop Neighborhood Guide for the Minneapolis Area
Considered a neighborhood in the Central community of Minneapolis, the North Loop neighborhood is a fantastic place to live.
This community, which is commonly referred to as the Warehouse District, has been considered the city’s shipping hub for years.
In fact, it includes the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Located just northwest of the central business district, this is a great place to call home!
The History of the North Loop
For much of its existence, this section of the city has been considered an industrial area. For instance, it was home to a large railroad yard and various factories and warehouses for many years.
This history is a huge part of the North Loop but it’s not the only part.
For instance, in the 1980s, the Warehouse District became the epicenter of the Minneapolis art scene until the area’s buildings became more commercially desirable in the 1990s.
Today, many of the industrial tenants here have been converted into commercial space or loft condominiums and apartments.
The Arts Remain in the North Loop
There are also still a number of arts venues in the area as well.
For instance, the Tony-award winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune was located here and the Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art is still located here.
Thus, there are still great opportunities to have an amazing artistic experience here.
Other Recreational Amenities You’ll Enjoy
Meanwhile, the North Loop Neighborhood Association received funding in recent years to build a dog park for residents in the area.
And Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, opened in 2010 in the southwest edge of the neighborhood.
Plus, given that the area is also served byTarget Field (Metro Transit Station), the new terminus for the Northstar Commuter Rail, Metro Transit Blue Line and future light rail lines, you’re always just a short distance from regional recreational attractions in the greater Minneapolis area.
