A Look Back at Eden Prairie’s History
This community began as a slow-growing pastoral village, existing this way for much of the 1800s and 1900s.
It started to gain a higher profile in the second half of the 1900s thanks to the development of its parks system as well as the addition of Interstate Highway 494. The development of the Eden Prairie Shopping Center also really helped its growth.
The city's name is attributed to founder Robert Anderson. Still, there is some disagreement in the history books because an 1849 map shows a small village named Eden on the Minnesota River, just south of Eden Prairie's present location.
That part of this community’s history remains a mystery.
